I am a older student pilot with about 30 hours and I want to purchase a starter GPS. I have been looking at the Ifly 700 and the Anywhere Maps basic unit. Help me make a decision!

Apple Ipad with Bad elf GPS and Foreflight. I little more initial outlay but does way more.
I have an older Garmin 'GPS III' for sale with all accessories, $100 shipped. It works fine.
I just bought the IFLY700 and it looks great. Haven't tried it out in the air yet (weathers bad) but intend to try tomorrow. I looked at several units but thought this was the best buy for the money and fit my VFR needs best. I suspect you'll get several opinions though.
Joe , I am looking for a small portable GPS to replace my Garmin 90; aviation only, not a car unit.
I am at the Fon du Lac Holiday Inn,leaving Sun am. Any chance you are here at Osh or or FLD and I could buy the unit. Try writing me here or leaving a message at 920 923-1440. Thanks Bill Greeenwood
Here is a picture of the Garmin GPS III. It does have a data base, I think the last update was 2003. The airports usually don't move or change identifiers. I just thought I'd jump ahead to a Garmin 696. I don't think Garmin provides updates for this unit anymore.

I was able to update my GPS III as recently as last year.
Thanks for all of the replys. I would love to use the I-Pad with Foreflight but I think the I-Pad is a little large for the smaller aircraft I will fly. I think the Ifly 7" will be just about the right size. The price of the Anywhere Map basic unit ($400) is very tempting but is the screen to small. My older eyes like a bigger screen.

I had a Garmin 296 and just upgraded to a 396. I like the ease of use and I love the weather feature!! It was very handy on the way to and from Oshkosh this week.
