Thread: What are you Building?

  1. #71
Looking to buy the plans for a Sonex. Sort of nervous as I am not very mechanically inclined. But it looks like so much fun! Any tips on getting started for this novice are welcome!

    Deemoney08,

I built a Sonex from a kit and can tell you the plans are outstanding. If you exactly follow the plans, it will come together just fine. You might want to start a new thread just on this post. Sonex has their own forum boards which I would take advantage of as well. If you have not yet, viewed our Hints for Homebuilder videos, Sonex has posted a lot of the relevant ones on their website. http://www.sonexaircraft.com/support/videos.html

You can do this. If there was any plans built aircraft that I would recommend for a first time builder, it would be the Sonex. Sheet metal is pretty straight forward once you get the hang of it.

Start by building some of the EAA workbenches. The plans are posted in a thread here.
Sonex flight testing complete. Building a Super Cub clone, check it out at www.facebook.com/piratecub

Awesome. That's what I wanted to hear. I'm crazy excited about it. I just doubt my ability a little. Mainly because my son will do it with me. And in his eyes daddy fails at nothing

Remember, this whole hobby is a learning experience. When you and your son take on this hobby, you'll both make mistakes. Learn and move on.

As a life lesson, it might not be a bad thing to have your son realize early, and in small steps, that his dad isn't necessarily Superman. (And I bet a whole thread could be done on that one subject alone!!)
Someday I'll come up with something profound to put here.

Haha. Yea, I could right a ten page paper on the daddys not perfect subject. Im buying the plans soon then. Thanks for the links and words of wisdom. I'll probably study the plans and start on a workbench.
