Stop on route to OSH from Southeast

    All,

Looking for a place to stop enroute from the SE, with things close to the airport or easy transportation. Prefer a B&B, perhaps in a quiet town with something to see, perhaps spend the day.

A few places that come to mind...

    French Lick, IN
    Cumberland Lake, Jamestown, KY
    Reelfoot state park, KY
    Petit Jean State Park
    Lee Bottom (camp again?)
    O6A Tuskegee Museum
Dickson, TN M02, Small B&B there, restaurants
    Greenwood GWO Alluvian spa
    Beaufort, NC

    Ideas?

Some of the above are spread out a good bit. I'd be WX flexible and get as far as your departure plans allow. If you snug it up towards Oshkosh you have less distance to deal with the next day.

So in part it depends on where you launch from? From the SE I'd likely do the Chicago lakefront to get around ORD class B.

    Joe,

Weather not an issue... no rush to get anywhere. More important is a great stop... something a bit different, like to avoid big towns (like Chicago... transportation hassle, pita). B&Bs are great, VRBO great.... just hard to find one close to an airport and something interesting around. Some of the smaller quaint motels are fine, like Realfoot.

Danville, KY. Might be interesting to you. Located in the Central portion of the state. Stuart Powell Field is very accommodating. Cheap fuel and Jet A, friendly staff, nearby motels and B&B's, historic sites, Civil War Battlefield, Good restaurants. Call ahead for a courtesy car.
