[QUOTE=1600vw;37951]The band was for after dark. Not much airplane noise after dark.
But this is not going to happen. Good idea or thought but not happening.[
Have you already given up? There are a lot of possibilities and things to schedule, especially if your holding the two day event at an "airpark." When we have fly-ins or gatherings at our airpark, we invite neighbors who reside in the vicinity of our pattern and they learn we're not a bunch of crazy people tearing up the skies. The leave at the end of the day with a better understanding and appreciation for what we do.
Here's a couple ideas.
If space allows, camping overnight.
Outdoor movie on a big screen. People enjoy sitting outside and watching a good movie at night.
Antique car show or check with some local car clubs to participate.
Lions club, or similiar organization, to run concession stand.
Flour drop.
Candy drop
The possibilities are endless. You only need a will and you'll find a way.
Don't give up on hosting a fly in, just recognize a multi day event is a huge undertaking and no one person can make it happen. For insurance purposes it has to be an EAA Chapter event or the cost is prohibitive. Get your local EAA Chapter to buy into the idea and start planning now for the 2015 season.
