Help with FAA registration process

I have a good friend in Mumbai, India, Amol Yadav, who has built an airplane on the roof of his apartment building. He is a commercial pilot there. He needs specific procedures that US aircraft builders have used to register their planes with the FAA.

Amol has received extensive notoriety for his extraordinary efforts, which are the first of their kind in India. Here is a link to a recent newspaper article.

Cool story. Not sure of what value it is but US builders of amateur built aircraft follow the guidance from AC 20.27G

Is he actually trying to register the plane in the US, or is he going to use the US process as a template for dealing with the Indian equivalent of the FAA?

He would prefer to use the US process as a template for obtaining approval with the Indian equivalent of the FAA, but if that does not work, he may register the plane in the US.

Marty's suggestion of looking at Advisory Circular 20.27 would be the best thing, then.

Licensing it in the US would require an inspection by a Designated Airworthiness Representative (DAR), which are appointed by the FAA. He might have trouble finding one in India, though there may be some associated with other aviation enterprises there.

If he's not a US citizen that might be a challenge. Home he can get homebuilt aircraft off the ground so to speak in India. That would be great!
