flight line acess 'after hours'

I plan on arriving at Oshkosh around 6 PM on Wed.. After setting up camp and getting my wrist bands for the rest of the week...will I be able to go onto the main grounds to locate friends, or take the shuttle and just get a general idea of the layout of things? I know the exibits are closed and really nothing 'commercial' at that hour, just wondering if I would have to pay for WED just to get in then? Some have said that if you put your next day wrist band on..they would let you thru the gate.. I will probably be going in thru the Ultralight gate..
