Our chapter (UL1) has been facing the challenge of helping interested individuals learn more about flying ultralights, as well as helping new pilots get some vital training before taking off in their own ultralight. Once we heard about the EAA flying club program we started working to create our own club to emphasize Light Sport type aircraft that had high drag and low power, similar to the handling characteristics of most ultralights.

Have any other ultralight chapters or groups started down this path? Do you have any experiences you can share with us and other potential UL groups looking to start a flying club?

Jim, I know of a group in the Niles, MI area and Flint, MI area going down this path. I believe the Niles group is associated with EAA Chapter 865 and Team MiniMax
