It's been pretty quiet here, lately. Let's post some pictures of our homebuilts.

Here's one I took a couple of years back:

This is my Fly Baby sitting on the grass at Pierce County Airport in Puyallup, Washington, with Mt. Rainier in the background. I photoshopped-out some light standards at the treeline.

There's a secret to taking pictures of your airplane with far-off features like mountains. What you want to do is get a long way from the airplane and use a telephoto lens to shoot both the plane and the mountain. That'll blow the airplane up, but it ALSO enlarges the feature in the background. Otherwise, you end up with a nice shot of your airplane, but a tiny bump in behind it.

Very nice pic Ron. Have you ever flown around or over Mt. Rainier?

Around, yes, but not near or even all that close. I grew up and learned to fly in the very flat area of eastern North Dakota, and big lumps on the ground like this bother the heck out of me.

Plus, of course, the options for a forced landing are very, very thin.

The mountain itself is just outside the Class B airspace for Seattle, which would also complicate gaining height before getting close. Not something Pete had to contend with, in his day....

Same day I took the picture in my original post, someone shot one me on approach....

Funny, for all the pictures I have of my Hatz, most have poor or distracting backgrounds. But I like this one:

My tenure in the Starduster was short but memorable. This is camping under the wing, bringing the plane home from Tennessee to Connecticut:

But my daughter's the real photographer in the family. Needed pictures of my Fisher 404 for a magazine article, so she came out and took several hundred, a few stand out:

From the deep dark past (1979) with the airplane somewhat unfinished, photo taken at Casement Airport, Painesville, OH. The nosedragger in the background is unfortunate but the ratty hangars are cool.

Another of the same Pitts in 1983.

I don't have any good ones of this airplane (an original design) -- cluttered background as usual.

This shows the prop to good effect.

Over half of homebuilts are owned by someone other than the original builder. Can't we be proud of our airplanes?

And what about folks who own Cessnas, Pipers, Luscombes, etc...should they just hang their heads in embarrassment, too?

My Just Highlander on a nice little strip on the Kahiltna River. In the background on the right is Denali (20,320'), on the left Mt Foraker (19,400'). The strip is about 500' MSL.
