EAA Museum Location in 1975...

This one's driving me a little crazy and I can't find anything on the Internet to help clarify. Was the EAA museum located in Milwaukee in the mid 70s? I sure thought I went to the EAA museum in Milwaukee in 1975. And my very ancient recollection was that it had a better (more broad) collection of planes than the current one. But that might be a bit biased by my age at the time.

It was located in Franklin, WI,(outside MKE) before moving to OSH. Don't know precisely when it moved, but I remember going to the museum in Franklin after i started flying in 1971. I saw the EAA Ford Tri-Motor with the wings setting against the hangar wall, if that dates the period. I remember that it had been damaged in a storm.

I did a search for the phase "EAA Museum" in the Sport Aviation archives. The January 1968 issue has a good article on it. Address was 11311 W. Forest Home Ave, Franklin Wisconsin.

The building is still there and still in use. It looks much like it did then. Current occupant was a printing company when I last drove by a couple years ago.

That does look like the museum I remember. But it was pretty well covered in snow when I visited.

The museum, along with our offices, moved in the early '80s, and officially opened in 1983.

Instead of the internet, you could have just checked your mailbox - this was mentioned in the August issue of Sport Aviation. :)

I've attached a few stories from our archives talking about preparing for the move and opening back in '83. Enjoy!
