And so it begins.... just got a text from 64600 stating "In approximately 10 minutes the AirVenture grounds will be hit w torrential rain & strong winds. The storm is still developing. "

Let the "fun" begin!

In 101 woods, the roads are heavily rutted and muddy. The grassy areas are ok.

reports of space filling up quicker than usual is spot on. 101 woods is mostly full already Thursday afternoon. I usualy arrive mid day Friday and have no issue finding a nice spot.

there are lots and lots of giant “estates” that are marked off. And, there are more and more giant trailers every year. It's rare to see what used to be the norm - a guy with a tent next to his car.

Camp Scholler grounds look from after the storm. It appears the the grounds have suffered a lot of water. https://twitter.com/pilot2b/status/1152436733830672385

A LOT of rain last night. They were forecasting SEVERAL inches. More due starting by 11 this AM thru remainder of day. I’m not calling it another Sloshkosh but both plane and camp arrivals are going to be challenging.

I'll bring my waders! We should be arriving to Scholler sometime this evening. I camp in the mountains frequently so I am use to setting up my tent in the rain and wind.

This 6th oshkosh in a row, and I lost my canopy last night. It's been through worse, but it gave up last night. I disassembled the bent parts to fold it up for the dumpster. When I opened the lid, there was another one already in it.

i'm also bummed that an arm on my awning bent 90 degrees. That awning has also been through many many storms with no issue. But not last night. Dang.

Any update on possibility to get an RV into Camp Scholler? I heard it was bad currently, looking to arrive tomorrow afternoon so maybe it will dry out by then??? Any thoughts?

I dunno. It’s very soggy right now and we still have one rain event to go this afternoon. So IMO it will still be pretty swampy tomorrow. Having said that there’s a ton of people here already.

Our afternoon tram runs were cancelled due to thunderstorms. Hopefully we'll be up and running tomorrow morning. The ground is pretty swampy.

Campsite is now CLOSED to people arriving in campers and RVs! If you have not arrived yet you will be turned away. We just got turned away after 3hrs in the queue.

Sorry Mr Deftone. But, it's ugly in here.

EAA is moving to a temporary alternate camping plan after the thunderstorms of the past 24 hours have left many areas of the AirVenture grounds saturated. We are continually assessing conditions and will continue to provide the best possible solutions as the rains end over the next few hours.
Camp Scholler (drive-in) Camping

Three storms within 18 hours have left Camp Scholler saturated. While the rain is scheduled to subside on Saturday evening, crews are assessing sites that remain suitable for either tent or motorhome camping.
In the interim, motorhomes are being placed along Waupun Road east of Poberezny Road, as well as in the Aviation Plaza parking lot just north of Wittman Regional Airport. Those will be temporary locations until the campground begins to dry.
Tent campers will be located on the best possible locations in the campground or in alternate sites that are not saturated.

This is a good area. 101 woods. South in the farmland is nothing but mud bogs.

The airport was closed to arrivals all afternoon unless they had hard parking arranged. No plane campers. I hope sunday is better, or a lot of folks are going to be just as unhappy as deftone.

This river through Camp Scholler has been flowing solid all day.

There are buses running from camp to the external parking lots where the Scholler refugees parked last night. I would assume the camp buses are running too.

First timers on our way in with a travel trailer. Any advice on where to head to wait out the flood?

OSHALERT Camp Scholler remains closed to new camping units because of numerous flooded areas. Read more grounds updates: http://mobn.it/znKavL

They are parking people on the access roads now. All the temporary parking EAA arranged is full. Pretty much any available parking lot has EAA refugees now. McDonalds etc.

> First timers on our way in with a travel trailer. Any advice on where to head to wait out the flood?

honestly, I'd head to Fond du Lac or Appleton airport, find a place tonpark, and take a shuttle here. Camp scholler is definitely drying out, but it’s going to be a while. It's not so much the grass parking that’s bad, it's that every roadway is a mud pit.

rather than wait behind literally hundreds of others, go to one of the other airports with parking and shuttle here until Scholler opens. Warning when it does open, the lines will be STUPENDOUS. Just stay away for a day or two

If you need a place to camp due to rain closure, we are at green lake campground. It’s 40 mins away but they’ve got plenty of space and it’s lovely!

Any news on the condition of Scholler? Partially open, closed? We're hanging out at an RV park in Iowa until we hear more info. Thanks for any updates!

In case you have not seen this.

Report posted Tuesday, July 23 at 11:10 AM.

"Conditions are slowly improving in Camp Scholler. All public roads outside and within Camp Scholler are now cleared of camping units. As conditions improve, decisions are being made about returning units in outlying areas to the EAA grounds.

Tent campers and smaller units will be selected and brought into Camp Scholler as suitable sites are confirmed or alternate sites are found throughout the EAA grounds. "

Wonder how one is selected? How many are waiting? Planning on leaving from MN to tent camp tomorrow but starting to fear my attendance streak with my boys are in jeopardy. What a bummer.

There’s a good-sized line at camper registration, but nobody stacked up on the roadside any longer.
