OK. I guess I'll kick-off the annual thread. 23 days and counting. Anyone (Todd) have a projected day for the web cams to go live?

I know I'm ready. Seems like in the past they were up and running much sooner. It'd be nice to have the year round cams at pioneer back as well.

They are put up as soon as the volunteer crew that puts them up has the time to get on site and do so.

FlyingRon

And of course, they're not very interesting until whoever raises the pylons gets them up as well.

In past years the towers usually get raised around the first week of July.
The cameras go online shortly after the towers are raised.

So I would say sometime during the 2nd week of July.

Hi everyone, we're estimating the web cams will go live in mid-July. We'll have a more precise idea next week.

FlyingRon

Actually one of the recent years had the camera live on the pylon while it was still lying on the ground. Like I said, it's not very interesting that way.

Wondering about Todd Ritzman, the volunteer who has been so great about keeping us informed about the webcams for several years.

For years I've enjoyed watching the planes arrive and all the tents and buildings spring up. I really miss it. The rolling tour shows the way finder towers are up so that's no longer a valid excuse. I'm willing to bet the web cams have gone the way of the museum cameras that would be "right back" 4 - 5 years ago.

I have faith they’ll be up, although I am surprised it’s this late- but as the video posted yesterday shows, there really isn’t much to see yet. I just checked again and they’re still not up. One surprise from the video yesterday was that I think I saw the big homebuilt tower thing they’re normally on up already, so maybe we’ll see something soon?

To all those here lamenting the fact that, with only 5 days left to the start of Oshkosh, the webcams are not being erected or close to operational, doesn't it seem curious to you that no EAA staff member and /or monitor has provided an update on the the issue as promised since July 12. To date, they are silent and gone dark.

In the absence of an updated informed response this close to start date, one might feel reasonable and logical to conclude that the webcams may not be this year. The mind conjures up all kinds of disparate thinking and opinions in the void of any real, truthful information.

Bill Berson

"doesn't it seem curious to you that no EAA staff member and /or monitor has provided an update on the the issue as promised since July 12."
------------------------
There may be one or two EAA staffers that actually listen to this forum (titled EAA Forums), and probably fewer than those two who care or can actually influence change, so, why would "they" speak up.
As my wife says, "It is what it is."
Sad, but, we keep giving them our money.

Thank you EAA staff and volunteers for all that you do! For those of us that attend Airventure regularly, we recognize the massive amount of work and resources that goes into making this event so great! I was out there this past Sunday/Monday in Camp Scholler. I saw a total of 3 planes, all in Vintage (assume they are volunteers). As mentioned several times throughout this thread, nothing too interesting is occurring right now, so putting the webcams task towards the end is completely understandable, plus it reduces the wear/tear on the equipment and other maintenance requirements.

We are headed back out Friday, flying in, and will be volunteering this weekend to hopefully help with plane parking. Safe travels to everyone who will be attending!

A sincere THANK YOU and kudos to the team of folks who make these annual webcams possible. I'm 70 and continue to marvel at all the digital wonders that we all can have at our disposal and at our fingertips that simply did not exist a scant few decades ago.

Anyone else grow up with rotary dial pay phones and needing to go to the library or hope the parents could afford to buy the Encyclopedia Britannica to learn about the world?

I'm with you Randy, I'll be 73 in a couple of months. My first recollection of using a phone was, when we picked up the receiver, the operator said, number please ! Small town, we only had two operators, one during the day, and one at night.

All 3 cameras worked for me yesterday. This morning I wanted to see how bad the storm was that is currently rolling through and the Vintage camera is solid black. I've tried both IE and Chrome with the same results. The Ultralight and Warbirds cameras are working fine.

Is anyone seeing anything on the Vintage camera?

They moved the webcams to the Main EAA YouTube channel. (https://www.youtube.com/user/FlyWithEAA/videos?view=2&flow=grid)
They also have added live ATC audio, it seem they are testing the audio at the moment, Audio comes and goes.
Alternately you can listen here LiveATC.net KOSH (https://www.liveatc.net/search/?icao=kosh)

The buffer in the players has not been enabled, So you cannot back up in the stream to look at the past video.
This is a bandwidth saving feature.

Here is the previous EAA AirVenture Live (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2OolgSNdCByWPNvcxN657g/videos) YouTube channel.
That channel no longer has any live feeds on it.

The links on the EAA website (https://www.eaa.org/en/airventure/eaa-airventure-news-and-multimedia/eaa-airventure-webcams) have been updated.

Obviously they are in tweak mode.

Major thanks to all who are involved with the live cams. Lot of work there. I like seeing the stuff getting set up... and it just feeds the excitement for me actually being there in [checks watch] 30 hours!

The live cams kept me sane last year when I couldn't come. Actually, it was a mix of sanity, jealousy, and sadness. But I liked that they were there.

Thanks, again.

I’m still baffled on how people can complain so much about the air show feed when we tell them we’re just watching a raw feed that isn’t intended for direct viewing.
i’m also surprised the the three live cameras show a few hundred people still watching.

I found out something great when I got back home. Live ATC does stereo. When listening to the feed one frequency comes over the left speaker and the other over the right. That was neat. Now, if I could figure out how to do that with my plane's audio...
