Anybody got any idea when the new Grounds and Scholler maps will show up on the website? Last year's maps were dated 5-17-18, (or at least that's the date used in the filename) so I would have hoped the new ones would be available by now, but as of 5-27-19 the AV'18 maps are still posted.

Don't know. Maybe they'll spend the extra time this year to make them legible.

Hopefully soon, I was looking for them as well.

I am wondering when EAA staff will change wording on maps that show "shuttles run from 6:30 AM to 11:30 PM. Maybe the Kobussin school buses run that schedule, but trams go from 8 AM to 8 PM. I sure hate getting yelled at by visitors when I am on afternoon shift and the boss says to pull the tram for the night. I am sure the printing office still has time to make the wording change.

Semantics is/are key to the conundrum. Was it two years ago now that they decided to call both trams AND buses 'shuttles'? I dunno why - I refuse to yield to conventions and still call myself a tram conductor..... unless Gene or Sandy tell me otherwise. - lol

I about got hijacked two years ago when I was running a six passenger golf cart shuffling volunteers down the flight line prior to the night airshow. A whole ton of people were queued up at the Hangar Cafe tram stop and the trams had gone away for the night and the buses were sporadic.

By the way Randy, if you can ever suggest to the powers that be on the trams that better signage would certainly simplify things. Saying:

BOARD HERE FOR: Exhibits, Warbirds, North 40, Homebuilts

makes more sense than just about anything else you could but on the sign (colors, whatever).

We've asked them every year but the powers that be at EAA AirVenture signage must have it on very LOW priority. All the conductors and sometimes the tractor drivers too answer this #1 question, all day long, "Where does this tram go? or Is this the tram to take me to "X"? Clear, simple and unique signage at each stop, on both sides of the road, would indeed help at least a little. People don't read signs either - lol

As passengers board my tram at the turn-around depots, long before we depart, as part of the process I proclaim several times which 'color' tram they are on and precisely where and in what direction the tram is about to travel. At least 5 times a day, every day, just before we are about to leave, someone's light bulb will fire up and they will jump off and head over to the other tram.

yep Randy. Always fun as a driver fielding a bunch of questions and Sandy shouting at me to get going

All I can say is how grateful I am to you tram drivers and conductors. Without you, I'd see way less of AV and my feet would be more tired. I get to sit in the shade, talk to interesting people, enjoy a cool breeze and see the sites. Besides, the kid in me loves going for a ride in a tram. :D

The welcome respite we can provide our passengers is one of the best parts of the job. I have a wonky knee myself and ride the trams too to get from one area of interest to another.

They made changes to the grounds so it will take awhile to draw the new changes on the grounds map.:)

They've also reconfigured the South 40 GAC and far south Vintage areas (not that those showed up on last years map but maybe they'll make it bigger).

There's also still a point of discussion as to where the end of the "you can ride your bikes/segways" boundary is going to be.

The 'color' of the tram is not the same as the color of the flag on the back (no one can see). But of course everyone knows that.

The 2019 app has just been released, so it could provide the information that you're looking for. I don't believe the 2019 map pdfs have been updated from 2018. Can't be too long now...

As I understand it, among the conditions the dealer places on their providing the John Deere tractors to pull the trams is a limit on the total hours each unit can be run and that nothing may be permantently affixed to them. That is why those tram route-color pennants on sticks are affixed with duct tape.

A bonus is that method also allows the tram supervisors to quickly change the livery over to a different color route as the need arises. Not a perfect system, but it works. IMHO -shared by many - better signage at tram stops would help greatly.

Viewed as they approach the stop, they all looked blue route to me the first year, until I noticed the flag. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=airventure+tram+photos&t=ipad&ia=images&iax=images&iai=http%3A%2F%2F2.bp.blogspot.com%2F_qNZDFsYWS50% 2FSYNin5lxNTI%2FAAAAAAAAAFM%2F-qYPjEfCHVY%2Fs400%2FJN4T8684.jpg

4 weeks from opening day, and last year's maps are still posted. I saw in an earlier post that the 2-19 app was released, and one of the highlights of in the promo for it is "interactive maps" so I downloaded it to see. Interestingly, the "map" in the app is a Google Maps satellite view that is at least 5 or 6 years old. I scrolled over to Camp Scholler and zoomed in to find my camper, but I found it several spots away from where it has been for at least the last 5 years, and the lack of solar panels on the roof may make it even older than that.

Interesting. If you take a look at the current Google Maps Earth view of AirVenture, it looks like a 2018 picture. Not sure though.

I tell people I'm going to see a little ol' airshow up in Wisconsin. Then I show them this picture. :D

Sometimes the year changes at different Google map zoom levels. But always Airventure week, I think.

There is a basic 2019 grounds map in the Official Visitor and Camper's Guide 2019 (https://www.eaa.org/airventure/partner-with-eaa/advertise-with-eaa/airventure-visitors-guide)
But it doesn't include the trams route map.

You can view the Official Visitor and Camper's Guide 2019 using
the Issuu flip book or download the pdf. (upper left corner of the flip book).
The pdf splits the map, half on one page, the other half on the other.

I'm confused as to why the EAA hates standards and directs their members to a site that needs half a dozen third party proprietary links to do anything.

By the way, the airport camping map (page 17) is worse than useless. The icons are all in the wrong spot. I have no idea what the splotch in vintage is. Many of the labels are displaced from what they are supposed to be labeling. Doesn't show any of the camping registration buildings other than the north 40.

In the upper left corner of that on-line viewer is an arrow pointing down, it is a download button. Click on it to download a PDF. With the size of the screen on my laptop and the thickness of my bifocals, I also have trouble with most of the on-line viewers, and have to download the PDF. And I think most of those viewers are Flash based, and a lot of browsers are stopping support for Flash, so sooner or later someone is going to have to find another solution.

Right, but I still have to go through some unknown publishing site which dumps further personal information in to both GOOGLE and some other site I've never heard of to get that far.

At least the Isuzu viewer doesn't use flash. It's a bunch of javascript and server side processing.

That's a much better map than the one in the book. I still could do without the pseudoperspective view. We're pilots, we know how to read a map.
I fear the moving of the feds into D indicates the continued decline in finding vendors to fill the space. I guess there aren't enough massage chair and TENS unit suppliers out there.

New International Federal Pavilion Location (https://www.eaa.org/airventure/eaa-airventure-news-and-multimedia/eaa-airventure-news/eaa-airventure-oshkosh/06-13-2019-New-International-Federal-Pavilion-Location-Highlights-Federal-Presence-at-AirVenture) article

Easy on those massage chair vendors, that's a stressful job. :-)

Looks like on the 2019 grounds map they finally fixed the road (Vern Ave) to the right of Hanger B.
They removed some real estate from Paul's Woods & moved Vern Ave slightly north to fit in the road.
Now it looks like how it really looks. Tram drivers won't need bread crumbs to find there way back anymore.

The way I understand it, after last year, the big guys heard loudly our comments on chairs, tens units etc. As a result, they committed to reducing the fluff stuff. Whether that’s what’s happened or not, we knew the feds were moving to D last fall so it’s not like a last minute OMG we need to fill some space!!
