The other day I was with a group of pilots, some being CFI's, and the following question came up: If an aircraft is beyond its annual inspection date can it be taxied from a hanger/parking spot to an on field mechanic without a ferry permit? I'm just looking for the official rule on this, we already covered most of the common sense arguments in our discussion.

Thanks.

Paul

I don't have the "official rule," but taxiing is not flying. I'm under the impression that a ferry permit is for flying it somewhere, and that you can taxi without needing that. After searching, the only mention I could find of the subject was from the Australian CASA.

Yep! Taxiing is not flying. No ferry permit, or anything else, required to taxi!

Don't even need a pilot certificate, since you're, you know, not flying.

As long as there is no intention to fly, it's okay.
