Hurray! My aircraft has been on the books for two and a half years!

Oh, no! I have to re-register it!

Jumping in before the FAA, a company called National Aviation Center (no "The" at the beginning there) sent me a letter advising it was about to come due, and they'd be more than happy to "facilitate" the process for me. I need only log onto their website (or call), enter in my information, pay a service fee (in addition to the one the FAA charges), and presto-whammo, I'm in the clear!

I go hunting around their website - and one has to hunt around a little - to find out what they charge:

Sixty five dollars.

That's a heckuva service fee, lemme tell you!

I went to the FAA website to see what the heck the FAA is asking and found it's a five dollar fee. Their letter arrived today, and in about forty seconds I had paid the five bucks and it was done.

There are multiple definitions of the word "service". In this case, the ranching one comes to mind.
