I am looking to build an ultralight with zero building experience. I want something that is under 5k and takes less than 6 months to build. Is that even possible? I looked at the affordaplane but some people said theirs came in 100 pounds overweight.

Check out Team Mini-Max https://www.teammini-max.com

Sent from my VS996 using TapatalkHow much would it cost to build the 1100r from scratch if I bought all the wood and cut it myself? And then found a vw engine in a junkyard to fix and use in it?

I'm not sure, but there is a very actve and helpful users group where I'm sure you could get all the help youd need. Its one of the best forums I've seen. Check the out:

Take a look at the ragwing line. You might be able to get the heath together with a rotax cheaply

The Afford A Plane comes close to FAR103 weight and is a lower cost build but the original engine was only a 277 CC and was under powered. There is a group over on Facebook for the Official Afford A Plane build.

The Lonesomebuzzares have a lot of info on the Mini Max. Also, try Barnstormers, they come up for sale pretty often.

Another option is to buy a second hand kit that hasnt been completed yet. Seems like lots of them around,
Buy them around 1/3 the cost of new or less. Lots of information on line to aid in building them. One with complete parts and directions is helpful.
