They usually don't start running until about a week before the convention begins.
They have to erect the towers, and then get the lifts to get the cameras set right.
There isn't a whole lot going on this early anyway.

You might see perhaps five airplane campers on each webcam by Thursday, three days before first day.

Looking forward seeing them myself. It is so enjoyable watching everything take shape as we get closer to the start. I tried to talk Hal Bryan into cleaning the lens and leaving them up year round but I detected some resistance on his part.

Any guess. Just to give you an update on the webcams. Paul and I are planning on installing the 3 webcams on the wayfinding towers this Wednesday and start testing the connections before the towers are raised in a couple of weeks.

Todd,
Let me be the first (this year) to say thanks for all your hard work. What you do, especially as a volunteer, is amazing - and truly appreciated.

Sirota,
Thank you. We have a small group of volunteers here for the week to provide as much footage as we can during the week. The farthest our volunteers come from is a Father and Son team that drive up from Houston every year just to share what they enjoy doing.
We did get the 3 cameras installed today and were able to test 2 of them. The 3rd currently has a connection issue to the internet. We will be working on that yet this week.
We have several improvements that should be noticed by our viewers right away. It was with the help of our viewers providing positive feed back to EAA last year that helped us get these improvements.
We also will have an additional stream again this year of the One Week Wonder where they are going to be building an RV 12 during the show.

Wanted to provide an update on the webcams, sorry they are so late this year. We did have the cameras all installed and tested earlier in the month and towers were originally to be raised mid last week, but because of weather and other items beyond our control as volunteers they were not able to be able to raised. I am told it is rescheduled for the early part of this week, lets hope for good weather. As soon as they are raised we will get a few camera tour stops programmed into the new cameras and get them online.

I am very to see the webcams up and running. Thank you!! I believe it was worth the wait. The clarity is nothing short of spectacular compared to last year. I would love to be able to see at least one camera somewhere on the grounds running year round. Thank you to the volunteers setting up the camera network. The crew is simply Awesome.

The webcam videos are awesome this evening. Perfect weather.
But there should be a "Homebuilts" webcam. Either on the flightline or somewhere in the midst of homebuilt parking and homebuilt camping.

A senior EAA staff member told me years ago that very little activity occurs at Whitman the other 51 weeks of the year. So, unless you enjoy looking at at some inactive buildings, mostly empty runways, grass and snow, then you'll be pretty bored.

It's easy to see there is little to no activity at Oshkosh 51 weeks of the year. Just watch the webcam for 30 minutes today.
Yet the tower is there all year.

There was a web cam at Pioneer airport for a long time. It was great to see the summer weekend activities there. Even during the winter you had the ski plane fly in. I'd love to see the pioneer cam back up and running.

To go from seldom controlled traffic for 51 weeks to the busiest control tower in the world for 1 week is a dichotomy of epic proportions. Is it in the Guiness book of records?

I'm not sure but I notice> Stream powered by CAMSTREAMER is this new?
I'm showing 4 hours of saved stream on the player, is this correct?
Camera tour programming looks Great !

I could, but then I would have to shoot you.... Ha Ha....
When we replaced the Vintage Camera last year after the lightening strike, we were able to try the Camstreamer App on a trail license. This greatly simplified how we stream the video and along with the new camera compression allowed us to improve the quality while still on the DSL internet connection. So this year we purchased the licensing from Camstreamer and part of the deal was to add the Powered by Camstreamer to our webpages.
Because of the improved video quality on the Vintage camera from last year along with all the positive feedback EAA received from the viewers last year, we were also able to upgrade the cameras for the Warbird and Ultralight locations this year. While the Warbirds and Ultralight cameras are still on the DSL internet connection, these cameras also have the newer video compression technology, so there is some improvement in the clarity over last year. Once I am onsite latter this week, I will try to push the DSL connection a little harder to see if we can get a little more out of it, but currently with the need to be able to remote to the camera at the same time, we currently can't try and still be able to make adjustments remotely.
EAA has been working on improving the connectivity on the grounds over the last several years and they now have the better connection near the Vintage tower, that is why the quality is so much better on that location. They still have a long ways to go before they finish the project, and the Warbirds and Ultralight towers are a long ways from show center where they have been focusing their efforts currently.
Another additional stream for us this year is the Building of the One Week Wonder. Since 4 years ago when we streamed the building of the first plane, we have some new encoding equipment along with a better internet connection, so we expect better quality there as well.
A couple of our volunteers also purchased some new camera equipment that they use for the around the grounds footage. They are still using cellphone internet connections for their internet access, so the quality of those streams are still dependent on the quality of the cell connection. We always try to push the connection as hard as we can, but sometimes we just have to back off to keep the video streaming smooth.
Hope all can enjoy what we can currently provide.

I would love to see dedicated webcams just showing arrivals. Even cooler would be a webcam that could follow every plane on final approach and pan with it until it lands, then pan to the next one. I listen to ATC for the first 3 days just to hear the incredible Fisk approach process.

Todd, Thanks for the in depth "Several improvements" explanation.
If I can here is a suggestion, keep the bandwidth priority on the three way tower cams.
The one week wonder cam I believe doesn't have as many viewers as compared to the the way tower cams.
I noticed the Ultralight and Warbird cams, both don't have a Date & Time stamp on the lower right hand corner of the player.
I understand you're still in tweak mode.
No big deal just wanted to give you a FYI.

Who are dem guys ?
Looks like someone is re-transmitting the EAA Live YouTube channel on to another YouTube channel.
They also added Live ATC Audio along with a Live Air Traffic Radar Picture in Picture.
Warning: Under the player, in the SHOW MORE area, the links look suspicious.

If they are not related to EAA I'd give them the boot.

Just got back home from Oshkosh. Looking at the webcams (withdrawals) the question I have is: Why even bother with the Sunday airshow? NOBODY is there.

The problem becomes "Which day do you make the last day?"
I believe in order to keep attendance up on the weekend, at one time they ended it Tuesday. Then they pushed it to Monday. Those were very quiet days. The first time they tried the night air show, it was only Saturday to try to keep members from leaving on Wed, or Thursday. Too many people explained how they had to fly back to work to start the next week, so the Wednesday show was added.
Do we start the event on Sun, and end it Saturday? There's already TitW and movie presentations that day, but will it hurt Saturday?
If the event was just a weekend air show, planning would be different, but our week long convention is quite unique
Actually, if you're there, the last day can be used quite productively. Vendors can be talked with. The museum isn't as crowded. You can take a helicopter or Tri-motor flight.

I was listening to EAA radio all week (which is highly entertaining, thank you) and even they said that the Saturday night airshow is essentially the closing ceremonies. I had enough vacation blocked to do Sunday, but by the number of empty spaces on the field even on Saturday, there seemed to be little reason.

Around the time of the Sunday Air Show.
I was wondering what happened to the live stream of the Sunday EAA AirVenture Daily Airshow.
I thought maybe the cameraman that is on the Air Traffic Control tower was a no show.
While waiting for the live stream to maybe go live, I was watching the Vintage cam.
All of a sudden this little Beautiful Monarch Butterfly, flies in front the camera and heads west towards Theater in the Woods.
A couple minutes later, the Sunday Air Show live stream starts working !!
The live stream of the Sunday Airshow, was as Beautiful as that Monarch Butterfly.
Maybe that little Beautiful Monarch Butterfly straightened out all the wrinkles. :)

Working the trams on closing day is always a melancholy experience. I was on the yellow route yesterday starting at 8:00am. Every run through vintage meant fewer and fewer aircraft to be seen on the ground and a constant stream of take-offs. By mid-afternoon when I sadly signed off duty for the year to drive back to Chicago it was mighty lean with not a lot of folks coming through the gates.
Oh well, AirVenture 2019 opens in "only" 357 days and I can hardly wait.

I'm a little late with this photo.
The 2018 Saturday 6:00 am Hot air balloon launch was a no go.
Looking at some flags my hunch is.
The reason they didn't launch, is not because the wind speed was to high.
The reason was the wind was blowing east over lake Winne.
They blew them up, then took them down.
I count 10.
