Need clarification on Flying wires.

which plane? Flying wires are the wires that are in tension when the plane is in 1g or +g flight. So they would run from the outboard bottom side of top wing to lower corner of fuselage. They can be made from cable or round stock that has been squeezed to a more aerodynamic shape, or just left round all depending the the type plane. They all only have value when loaded in tension; they are not much for compression load especially the cable type.

Landing wires are the ones more or less perpendicular to the flying wires. They usually run from the outboard top side of the bottom wing to the fuselage cabane or wing center section.

It's common to call all the external bracing wires on planes "flying wires" but they have a more specific function.
