I haven't yet seen the new movie Darkest Hour, about Britain facing WWIi and the German threat, but I expect to. I am a great fan of Sir Wimston a man who spoke often to elequently and also with wit and memorable lines. But most of all he from the first saw Hitler as the evil that he was and Churchill never waiverede from his opposition and determination to oppose Hitlier no matter what it may risk.
As an example of his character, Winston wanted to landed with the invasion at Normandy, and Eisenhower wisely overruled that.BJ anbd
Contrast this with the lack of leadership from LBJ and Nixon during the Vietnam War, disgust not inspiration.

Winston liked his Brandy and was often chastised by proper ladies for being in his cups. One lady said he was so shameful that if he was here husband she'd put poison in his drink and Winston replied that if he was her husband he'd drink it. Another time a lady jumped all over him saying . "You sir are drunk" Winston came back with "And you Madame are ugly and in the morning I shall be sober."

Another (but probably apocryphal) story about Churchill: Supposedly, George Bernard Shaw sent him theater tickets with a note:

"Here are two tickets to opening night of my new play. Bring a friend, if you have one."

To which Churchill replied: "Cannot attend opening night. Will come to the second night, if you have one...."

Churchill and Martin Luther King are probably the most adept users of the English language in the modern era.

Those lines are great examples of Churchill's witty repartee. I saw the movie and while I can't recall equally memorable lines spoken by him, there is some very witty and erudite dialogue spoken.

The movie is so well executed transporting you back in time to 1940 London with great effectiveness. Gary Oldham plays Churchill astonishingly well and the makeup is incredible, he makes you believe he's the real thing. Listen carefully to some of his dialect dialogue or you will find yourself missing some of it.

The entire movie takes place over the period of about 3 weeks from first becoming PM to the Dunkirk evacuation.

Last night Gary Oldham won the Golden Globe award for best actor, if I have my info correct. It didnt win best picture which went to "Maids Tales", which I havent seen.
A scene in the movie that I really enjoyed was the one where Winston is on the subway car and asked the other riders, the ordinary people what he should do about Hitler and the opinions are strong is favor of fighting if necessary. This could be a bit of directors license and not actual occurance, but if true is a good moment. I wonder what the same question would have brought answers if asked of the people on the streets of Germany at that time.

"Maids Tales" is a porn flick, someone told me that.�� You are likely trying to refer to The Handmaids Tale, based on the famous book by Canadian author Margaret Atwood. It won for Best TV Drama. Best motion picture went to 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri. Go see it, I highly recommend it( so do hundreds of reviewers)
