Did anybody else notice that the 1st production Cessna 172 was awarded a Contemporary Gold Lindy when it should have been a Classic? Just curious.

But wasn't it a 1956 yr model?

Perhaps, but that's not what the judging rules say. It's the date of manufacture, not the "model year" of the aircraft.

I have no doubt eligibility for contemporary class was justified and the awarded category is not an oversight.
