This is another example of a heavy handed govt convincing a socialist judge to slap down someone trying a colorfully stunt.
Anytime I hear " we have to make sure this never happens to anyone again" OMG here comes more laws.
Explain to me how a bunch of colorfully helium balloons and a lawn chairs were a danger to people on the ground.

Any way, buddy got the publicity he wanted, it cost him $50k.
I especially like the self righteous cop saying that would have been cheaper to buy a billboard.

Note, that it was the heavy handed CANDADIAN government that handed down the sentence. $20,000 of it is actually paid to a veterans foodbank rather than to the crown.

Ray, did it say what laws he broke? And is that a standard penalty for breaking whatever law(s) he broke? Or was this something done by a judge "on the fly"? (no pun intended)

Article says he plead guilty to "dangerous operation of an aircraft." Here's the law: http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/c-46/section-249.html

IMO the punishment was not proportional to the crime.

What happens to an airline pilot that might endanger lives in some similar trivial manner? He might get a bit of retraining. That's all.

lol, I think it's awesome. Maybe someone will start a gofundme page for him.
