I've recently scanned about 100 old Kodachrome 35mm slides taken by my dad, R.P. "Dick" Rice in the early 60s. They were mostly taken at Oskaloosa and Ottumwa, Iowa but also several were taken at an Arizona fly-in in late 1961 or early 1962.

I just dropped these onto a webpage. Most lack captions, but I plan on adding them and pertinent info as time permits....but flying and working on my Swift and Cub take precedence so don't get in a hurry. :)

Some great stuff in there including many I can't ID, thanks for sharing. Can anyone put a name to the yellow parasol a little more than halfway down the page, N15785? Davis? Morane-Saulnier?

Fantastic collection of photos - a real goldmine! Love that Fox Moth...

As for the parasol, it's a Davis - very similar to the one in our museum:

Nice collection! Love the Ryan SC's, always one of my favorites (and quite rare). Also I see one picture of an even rarer bird, Richard Bach's Detroit-Parks P2A N499H that he made famous in his books Biplane and Nothing By Chance... not sure if he owned it yet at that point.

Good eye, Dana! I'm pretty sure Bach bought that airplane in '66, so this may have been shortly before he took ownership.

As I get around to labeling everything, I'll be asking you folks for some help in ensuring I have the right model and registration numbers for everything, especially the various Wacos....can anyone really identify them all visually? :)

The Super Cub, unfortunately, belongs to a friend. He used to let me fly it frequently, but he has since moved away. :( That is me flying in the picture though.

I've often said, if I was ever limited to only having one airplane for the rest of my life, I think it would be a Super Cub. I hope I don't ever have limit myself though! I'd rather own, fly, sell and buy something new from time to time.

51 years ago....wonder if they were called antiques then? Loved the pics, thanks so much for taking the time to post them. Got a great laugh seeing those young ladies attending an airshow in dresses, high heels and white gloves, quite the spectacle....an historic snapshot on how our culture and society has changed, thank goodness.
