That was from a TV station; far more interested in getting it on the air first rather than being correct. The local print media got it right:

I love it when one news outlet quotes another news outlet and fails to pay attention. The site referenced in the Fox article already has a correction. Correction: An earlier version of this story said the Federal Aviation Administration identified the plane as a single-engine home-built Vans RV6.
