Dear Cessnas 2 Oshkosh Pilots and EAA Friends:

If you have tried to access our website today, you already know. We would like to inform all of our pilots and friends that our website has been down all day since early morning. At 7:45 AM EDT, our host, GoDaddy.com, suffered a catastrophic failure in their data center in Phoenix, Arizona. Unfortunately, one of the servers that failed was the one where our website lives. Fortunately, the servers that hold our SQL database and the email service were not affected. Our data has been verified and is intact.

We made contact with GoDaddy's data center technicians shortly after the crash and have been in touch with them throughout the day working on the solution. As of 20:00 EDT, the GoDaddy's data center technicians have not been able to restart the replacement servers.

We will inform everyone once the website is back online. We would like to offer our apologies for the inconvenience that this failure may have caused.

Update: May 17 / 17:00 EDT

Our host, GoDaddy.com has informed us that they have been able to setup and successfully test the replacement servers. They are now in the painstaking process of moving our website files, as well as those of many other websites, to the new servers.

We are confident that our website will be back online soon. You may continue to communicate with us via email at Info@cessnas2oshkosh.com

First, we would like to apologize to all our pilots, relatives, friends and visitors to our website for the debacle. As we have informed before, the problem started with a catastrophic hardware failure at our hosting company's data center in Phoenix, Arizona early in the morning of May 16. GoDaddy's personnel has since been working on their end to bring back the system to operational status. As much as we detest to admit it, we have no choice but to wait until we get the "go ahead" from GoDaddy.

To partially mitigate the problem and to move ahead with the training of our pilots, we have sent to each of our lead pilots a list of pilots registered in their respective clinic with their contact information. In addition, we have sent them all the documents and training material necessary to conduct the clinics. If you are a registered pilot, signed up to attend one of the clinics on May 21, May 28 and June 4, expect a contact call or email from your lead pilot.

We have a couple of things to inform our pilots. The 2016 Letter of Agreement (LOA) is not out yet. We will distribute the 2016 LOA via the website or via email if it is published before the website goes back online as soon as it is signed and published. The 2016 AirVenture NOTAM is not out yet either. It will most likely be out at the start of the May 26 FAA publishing cycle. It is very important that our pilots become familiar with the LOA and the NOTAM and understand that it is a requirement to have it available in the cockpit during the mass arrival flight.

We expect to have our website back online soon and we're hoping it will be within the next 24 hours. We appreciate all the messages of support and offers of help from many of you during this crisis.

Dear Cessnas 2 Oshkosh Pilots and EAA Friends:As you may know, our site had been down since Monday, May 16 at 7:45 EDT (UTC-4). The cause of the problem was a catastrophic hardware failure at GoDaddy's Phoenix data center. After a five days wait and multiple failed attempts to restore our website by our hosting company, we decided to create a new hosting account, move the website to a new server and restore it from our own backup. As of Sunday, May 22 at 09:00 EDT (UTC-4) we're back up and running, 100% functional.

http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/media/img_1262.jpg (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com)

We would like to express our gratitude to our pilots and friends for their support in our moment of crisis. Special mention goes to our friend Jennifer Dellenbusch, President of the Cessna Flyer Association (http://www.cessnaflyer.org) and publisher of their magazine Cessna Flyer (http://www.cessnaflyer.org/magazine/2015-09-17-22-22-29/april-2016.html), for her show of aviation camaraderie, reaching out and providing us with a forum account to communicate with many of you.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge that none of this could have been possible without the technical wizardry of our talented web developer Marcos Velez. Thanks a million to Marcos for the many hours of hard work dedicated to Cessnas 2 Oshkosh, not only to restore our website during this crisis, but also over the past nine years working tirelessly behind the scenes.

Dear Cessnas 2 Oshkosh Pilots and EAA Friends:

We're only about 50 days away from our mass arrival into Oshkosh and we all need to complete our training requirement. It's time to enroll in one of our many formation training clinics. Just this weekend we added two more clinics to our schedule, a brand new one, our nineteenth, and one that was posponed last May 14, due to marginal weather. We still have one more, the New York/New Jersey Clinic (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/clinics/kmgj_clinic.aspx), also postponed last May 14, that will be rescheduled on an as needed basis.

http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/media/img_1264.jpg (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/clinics/)

The North Carolina Clinic (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/clinics/keqy_clinic.aspx) will take place next June 11, starting at 12:00 Noon EDT at Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport (KEQY) (http://www.charlottemonroeairport.com/) in Monroe, NC. The host and lead pilots of this clinic are John Roney, Lee Myers and Jason Dagenhart.

The Ohio Clinic (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/clinics/kdlz_clinic.aspx) was rescheduled for June 25 at 9:00 AM EDT at the same location, the Delaware Municipal Airport (KDLZ) (http://www.airnav.com/airport/KDLZ) in Delaware, OH. The host and lead pilot of this clinic is James Andres.

We would like to notify all our pilots that the 2016 AirVenture NOTAM (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/documents/doc43.pdf) and the 2016 FAA-C2O LOA (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/documents/doc44.pdf) are available for download on our website by visiting the Training page (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/training.aspx). We also would to remind our pilots that getting familiar with these two documents is of utmost importance for those flying PIC in the mass arrival flight and it is also required by the FAA to have these two documents in the cockpit, available to the PIC during the mass arrival flight.

For more information about these clinics and to download the 2016 AirVenture NOTAM (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/documents/doc43.pdf) and the 2016 FAA-C2O LOA (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/documents/doc44.pdf), click on any of the links above or visit our website at:

Cessnas 2 Oshkosh 2016 Registration Deadline Extended!

http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/media/img_1265.jpg (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/newsletter/images/img_040.jpg)

We would like to inform all of our current and former Cessnas 2 Oshkosh (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com) pilots and friends, especially those who are on the fence about flying the 2016 Mass Arrival into AirVenture - Oshkosh (http://www.eaa.org/en/airventure), that the registration deadline has been extended to Thursday, June 23rd at 11:59 PM CDT.

This is also our deadline to place the shirt order with our vendor and have guaranteed delivery of the shirts on time to hand them to you on arrival to Juneau for our annual gathering.

You may still register to fly the mass arrival after this deadline, but you will not have your shirts awaiting you at Juneau. They will be part of a back order placed after the arrival and shipped to you at a later date.

If you are thinking of flying the 2016 Cessnas 2 Oshkosh Mass Arrival (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com), we strongly recommend that you register now, sign up for training in one of our scheduled clinics, get the training out of the way and start planning your trek to Dodge County Airport in Juneau, Wisconsin (http://www.wisconsinaviation.com/index.php/FBO-Juneau/FBO-Juneau-UNU.html).

If you are registering to fly the arrival for the first time, follow this link: First Time Pilots (https://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/signup.aspx).

If you have registered on any previous year, even if you did not actually fly the mass arrival, follow this link: Returning Pilots (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/pullupregistration.aspx).

For more detailed information about the registration process, visit our home page at www.cessnas2oshkosh.com (https://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com#homebar_30).

We would like to inform every 2016 Cessnas 2 Oshkosh Pilot (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/participants.aspx) that the GPS waypoints for our mass arrival flight are now available for download on our website by visiting www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/waypoints (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/routes.aspx).

The waypoints are available in three different file formats: Microsoft Word doc, Adobe pdf and Windows comma-separated value files. The latitude/longitude values are provided in the Degrees Minutes.DecimalMinutes format used in most panel-mounted as well as portable GPS units.

http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/media/img_1271.png (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/routes.aspx)

As in most previous years, we expect to depart runway 2 from Dodge County Airport (KUNU) (http://www.airnav.com/airport/kunu) and land on runways 36L and 36R at Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH) (http://www.airnav.com/airport/kosh) in Oshkosh.

As experience has already taught us, we have to be prepared to takeoff from any runway and land on any runway the the prevailing wind conditions and other unforeseen circumstances may dictate.

Two waypoints have been established for the takeoff from Juneau's runway 20 and the course reversal turn to the downwind leg direct to RRINT, the first route waypoint.

http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/media/img_1272.jpg (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/routes.aspx)

The first one, D20P1 is a "fly-to" waypoint and the second, D20P2 is a "fly-by" waypoint. The purpose of these waypoints is to prevent premature crosswind turns and avoid conflicts in the downwind leg.

Three waypoints have been established for the approach and landing pattern at Oshkosh's runway 18.

http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/media/img_1273.jpg (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/routes.aspx)

The first one, ALT01, reached from POBER, marks the beginning of downwind, ALT02 marks the beginning of a continuous shallow turn to base and ALT03, which marks the beginning of the 2.5 nm final.

The purpose of these waypoints is to structure the landing pattern, avoid improvised and unpredictable too long or too short downwind legs and avoid conflicts.

We would like to acknowledge the contribution of many of our pilots to the development of these new procedures with their feedback reports. We believe they constitute an improvement in our preparedness and the safety of our mass arrival flight.

The specifics of our flight procedures will be discussed amply during our preflight brief in Juneau on July 23rd. We strongly encourage every 2016 Cessnas 2 Oshkosh PIC to program their GPS units now and have everything ready prior to the arrival in Juneau.

We look forward to seeing everyone in Juneau soon.

http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/media/img_1271.jpg (http://www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/routes.aspx)

We have detected and corrected an error in three waypoint files released today. The error consisted of the transposition of waypoints D20P1 and D20P2 and was present in the three files describing the departure from Juneau's runway 20.

If you downloaded any of the waypoint files unu20_waypoints.doc, unu20_waypoints.pdf or unu20_waypoints.csv, before 8:00 PM EDT on June 20, please discard the downloaded file. If you have already programmed your GPS unit using one of these files as reference, delete user waypoints D20P1 and D20P2.

To download one of these files again, we suggest that you empty your browser's cache, close the browser, reopen it and then download the file of your choice. Once this step is completed you can reprogram waypoints D20P1 and D20P2 into your GPS unit safely using the newly downloaded file as reference.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks to our Cessnas 2 Oshkosh PIC Larry Petro for his alertness and prompt report.
