This is from a Garmin systems manual for their G1000 avionics system. Is it me or is it the manual?

I think when a switch is open, no current flows through the switch. If so, then when the battery switch is open, the battery is disconnected. But the switch in the diagram is labeled "generator switch status" not "battery switch" so I'm confused. What's the generator status have to do with whether the battery is connected?
