I didn't know Walt well, but he seemed like a nice guy and I have always heard good things about him. One thing I liked is that although he had owned and flown some of the top airplanes, he wasn't one to brag. Some years ago my friend David Fain became active with warbirds of America, ie EAA. Dave flew a T-6 painted like the one that he had been an Army Air Corp instructor in WWII. It had a big C-150 on the side. After meeting and getting to know Walt one year at Oskosh, Dave told us about Walt, "That guy knows his stuff."

Sad to report that Jim Mckinstry of Longmont, Colo passed away last week. He, I believe may have retired from United, not sure about that, and for a number of years flew and raced a Allison engined Yak and then a radial Yak. He also was kind enough to give me some time in his very nice Chipmonk, which I think his Son flies now. We enjoyed seeing Jim and his wife at many local events over the years, and will miss him.

Although I've never met Mr. Ohlirch, I did know his name from his involvement at Reno and the Warbirds organization for many years.
Blue skies and tailwinds forever.
