How many know that one can get paid for posting video's on youtube? Now if you post video's that are of you flying your eab or experimental airplane among other video's, then a year later youtube cuts you a check, is this breaking the rules?

I would argue that you are being paid to take and edit the video, not for flying.

A few years ago we posted a tragic event from Oshkosh on YouTube. We had over 200,000 hits in a few days and received an email from them setting out the cheque amount. As we didn't feel good about accepting money for a scene where people were seriously injured, we asked YouTube to send the money to a charity of our choosing and they did. You could consider that option.

If all my video's where of flying, I would say this is a good idea. I have one that is getting all the attention. It's a How to: Mounting a car tire using soap paper towel and screw driver in my living room. The others are bringing in views but not like the one.
I have maybe 10 video's of flying out of over 100 video's I have posted. But my How to video is the big hit.
Tony
P.S. I never knew youtube paid for posted video's.

I have a video that was posted on Nov 12, 2013 and now has 6,390 views. The video is also monetized through youtube's monetization program. So far, I have made a whopping $12.68 on that video.
That's $0.00198 per view, or $1.98 per 1,000 views. From talking with other youtubers, it's usually $1.00 per 1,000 views. I don't think early retirement is in the picture.
Even if the video had a million views, it would only be $1984.35. However, youtube is a great way to do advertising without having to pay for it.

Great! Now you have a choice to make. Buy 10 gallons of fuel or take 10 of us here out for lunch and a beverage. :D

There'd only be an issue if the purpose of the flight was to shoot video for hire, and the FAA isn't even going to care much about that.
My Fly Baby has been the photo model/guinea pig for quite a few magazine articles, and I don't expect the FAA to squawk about it.

Nice video but for what those Go-pro's cost I will stick with my point and shoot. What are those go-pro's around 400 bucks each? The dubbed over music...I could do without that. I like to hear the engine and anything else but music dubbed over the sound of the video.
I would say its just me but its not....

Ditto on this being a nice video. I am happy that you get a nickel or a dime or so for me watching it. Like Tony, however, I wonder what is the advantage for the GoPro? What does this do that my iPhone and an appropriate RAM mount does not?

Those little camera's are awesome. The frame rate is so hi one can do all sorts of things that only other camera's but the best or production camera's can do. They just cost to much for the average hobbyist to afford. Just me but 400 bucks will go towards a new EIS for my engine.

There are some Go-Pro "clones" out there, pretty cheap. I found a "Sharper Image" version on clearance at the local Ace Hardware... $50.

The GoPro stabilizes really well too. My buddy lets me use his occasionally and it works great.

I like adding music to my videos. Sometimes it adds a little bit of excitement to the video:

Everybody adds music. What you like some don't. Everyone believes music adds to their video. I only make money on video's I post without 3rd party content. Not sure how that works with you.
There will NEVER be Music on any of my video's that are not of music.

I paid for a license to use the music. It's mentioned at the bottom of the video on YouTube. This allows me to monetize the video. There are other websites that provide free music like Danosongs. He gives you a link to put with video in the comments area allowing you to monetize your video. I do a lot of videos for airport FBOs and aviation museums.

Yep, it's a lot, $39.95 per tune at http://PremiumBeat.com. The music that I get from http://danosongs.com/ is free and he offers a license that shows that there isn't a third-party royalty, so youtube won't have a problem with monetization. You just add a link back to his website and a link to the free license at http://danosongs.com/danosongs.com-license.pdf.
The music at PremiumBeat.com is very well done, and there is a lot to choose from. You can use the tunes as many times as you want to, on separate videos.
I must admit that am one of those %^&* musicians and love syncing up the videos with music. It's an addiction (Kind of like flying airplanes).
For me, the content of the video kind of determines the sound track (music/no music), like this one where we had a double GPS failure during a video shoot. It doesn't have music during flying and talking part (only at the very end):

This would be ruined if music was added. IMHO....

It's a matter of taste. I don't mind music, as long as there's nothing in the soundtrack that would enhance the viewing experience. Almost all of my videos are taken with the camera on the outside of the aircraft, and the "natural" soundtrack is just distorted burbling.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8cEA5NhTuE
When music *is* added, the video should be cut to take advantage of the flow of the music. I'm still happy with this one:

There's a song I've been dying to wrap a video around, featuring my aging Fly Baby. Just haven't got around to doing some the scenes I'd need to make it work.

Nothing against those in the flatlands, but dramatic landscapes and unique locations definitely make for nice videos.
