When not flying, I enjoy working in my shop, and thought some airplanes would make nice decorations for our Christmas party. No, I don't have enough time to track down and build balsa-and-tissue models, but I can probably bandsaw a few out of scrap lumber and paint them up.

To do this, I need scale drawings of airplanes. I only have the one from my Owner's Manual, and the one of the 172 that I took lessons in. Ideally I could finish several for this year's party, then add to the collection each year. To represent the planes at our airport, these will keep me busy for a couple of years:

-Piper J-3, Cherokee 140/180
-Cessna 182 [square tail & modern]
-Cessna 172 square tail [I have the modern drawing]
-Bonanza [F33 & A36; no V-tails around]
-Stearman
-Lanceair IV
-Pitts [any model]
-Grumman Cheetah/Tiger
-Aeronca Champ
-anything else interesting

Yes, I've tried the various model airplane sites [I'm a life member of AMA] without success. To get the ball rolling, I am attaching the relevant page from my own plane.

Thank you all for your help.

Hi Hank-

I'd be surprised if someone didn't point you here already, but, just in case, check out Bob Banka's collection (click the Catalog link):

http://www.bobsairdoc.com/3-view.htm

I just had a quick look through the catalog, and spotted 3-views listed for at least 8 of the airplanes on your list.

No affiliation, etc., but in my last job (Microsoft) we used to order his reference material pretty regularly.

Regards -

Hal

Not on your list, but Van's has 3-views for all the RV models available for free download here: http://www.vansaircraft.com/public/downloads.htm

I'd recommend this (http://richard.ferriere.free.fr/3vues/3vues.html) site as well.

Fascinating... He has a photo set of my airplane (N240WP). I may have to order it just out of curiosity!

I was there at that time too--looks like we overlapped a couple of years. Aviation Management, '88. Spent my fair share of time in Ramsay and Wilmore halls.

I'd recommend this (http://richard.ferriere.free.fr/3vues/3vues.html) site as well.

Richard I-won't-try-his-last-name has EXCELLENT drawings on his site, but there are no dimensions. Part of the fun will be making them to the same scale [my 36' wing reduced to 6" sounds doable] and comparing the sizes of the planes. Then of course, I get to paint them up like Christmas . . .
