I'm fairly certain something about Worldwide Aeros Corps' new experimental "Aeroscraft" blimp has been posted in the EAA forums before, but here's a new article about a recent test:

The thing looks incredible!

Sorry Zack: Dirigible, not blimp. The envelope has a frame. Don't make me go all airship on your ***. :-)

Personally, I can't believe the thing even made it out the door. Having seen parts of it under construction 2 years ago, I had doubts. I still don't think that the helium compression system for ballast control is going to work.

In the spirit of Benny Howard and his DGA, I will forever forthwith refer to it as a BDFM...Big Darn Flying Machine!

Are you sure this is real and not the lead story in The Onion? Igor, born in Ukrain gets $3 million then part of $50 million to build a zepplin from our govt which is so broke that it has to extort money from EAA for atc at Oskosh.Igor learned his "English" from Arnold movies, and his office was a former porn studio. I never knew they grew pot in Ukrain, but apparently they have a very strong and imaginative strain of it there.

To put Bill's comments into context - an article about the aircraft's designer, Igor Pasternak:

It has been a long time since I saw the movie and my memory might be off on that detail, but wasn't "Igor" the name of the assistant that helped Dr. Frankenstein build his creation?

Also the name of one of aviation's greatest pioneers - Igor Sikorsky. And let's not forget well-known gyroplane designer Igor Bensen.
