I may have a need in the near future for a nosebowl to modify the cowling on a Rotax 503 installation. Basically, I am thinking of replacing a rather unattractive swoopy composite cowl with a classic nosebowl and flat-wrapped aluminum or fiberglass one. I shot an e-mail off the folks at Murphy Aircraft to see if I could get one for a Murphy Maverick--any other ideas? I am looking for something smaller and lighter than the Lycoming and Continental ones you can get from Aircraft Spruce. Here's a Maverick pic to illustrate what I mean. Cheers, Matthew

I think Univair might have something for you - at least as inspiration.

By entering "cowling" in the search box, I got a list of possibilities:

Note the list of links at the lower right.

Thanks, but the Univair parts are VERY pricey, for that amount I'd be better off with one of the standard Aircraft Spruces ones for homebuilders, maybe trimming it down, something like this one for $115 copied from the Piper PA-14 (http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/mc3b.php). But I am concerned that something like that will be unnecessarily heavy and the lines won't be right for a small, side-by-side two-seaters.

Hmmm, seems to me that the best solution to finding a nose bowl that fits what you want, is to MAKE exactly what you want. Simple hand tools should do nicely since you are only making one.
