Paul Bertorelli of AvWeb and Aviation Consumer characterizes Sun 'n' Fun this year as indicative of an industry that is adrift. Among many other observations, he says, "Another source of distraction—and I heard this several times—was that both major GA organizations are now leaderless."
From my limited vantage point, I don't think EAA is leaderless at all. I think it probably has better leadership now than it's had in several years. At least it seems to be leadership that listens to the membership. I can't comment on the in-house situation, if the staff is happy, but I haven't heard a lot of squawks.
In a recent interview, Jack Pelton, EAA's chairman of the board, said the organization's search has been suspended until after AirVenture. I hope that doesn't indicate that EAA is destined to remain without a permanent leader for some time, but instead that the Board of Directors is just acting responsibly, not wasting money on an executive search, but waiting until the annual meeting to elect Jack Pelton as CEO.
Just my opinion.
