Because that extra 14% in size costs about 3,000% more to build. :-) The UK doesn't have the same restrictions on r/c model weight, so they build lots of really cool, big stuff over there.

If the FAA sees these things it will want to inspect them or exercise control over them in some way! What is being used for engines?

Oh wow, that is wicked cool!
When I was a young lad, my dad built and flew a 1/3 scale Pitts.
As a child, I was just fascinated by such a huge model.
But in comparison to that model, it doesn't look nearly so big as it once did.
