OK. I now have all the Cessna landing gear parts I need for my project, not including the wear parts (tires & tubes (I have used ones for now), brake pads, & gear leg bushing)

Guess how much I paid for all this, accumulated over approx 7 months time.

From a (few different) 172N's
gear box assembly (I need the fittings the legs mount in)
gear legs with axles
another set of axles with wheel nuts
wheels
brakes

and nose gear with mounting fittings from a 182K

2070

What do I get if I'm right? By the way, I'm guessing $250 and a slightly annoyed wife. :P

I'll buy you a virtual beer. ;)

You are a bit low - and I don't have a wife (if I did I probably wouldn't be doing this)

And no, I didn't spend anywhere near what Cessna wants for new, or what the bigger salvage yards wanted. So far I have spent about 3 times what my first used truck cost.

I'd say you have about $750-$1000 of ebay stuff.

And I thought I did good.

You would be right if you left out the nose gear, unbent 182 nose gear WITH the fittings is hard to find. Surprisingly 172 gear goes for more - probably more demand because of student pilots.

I got the gear box more or less local for $300, the only fittings on Ebay are $400 each (and there are 4 of them.

I did leave out the nose gear (assuming it was more 172 stuff). Okay, so you paid and additional $750-$1000 for the 182 nose strut.

Close enough. That pile is a shade over $2000 (including freight) - the most I'm gonna spend for anything on this project other than the engine/prop & the avionics.

What I love about scrounging is the thankfully small group of folks who seem to take pleasure in informing me that they just sold a part like that for ...... (fill in a 1940's price). Ah well..... Try to make someone happy each day.
