I found an ad in "AutoWeek" about Shell racing fuels: http://www.shell.com/home/content/globalsolutions/products_services/racing_solutions/racing_solutions_usa/racing_fuels/ At nearly $10/gal, it is a bit pricy but if I had my choice for going unleaded, the technical specs for URT 100 looks pretty good: http://www-static.shell.com/static/globalsolutions/downloads/products_services/racing_solutions/urt_100_brochure_online.pdf Apparently this has been available since 2010. Google hasn't shown any hits of this fuel used with an airplane. At $10/gallon, it would not be a trivial test but still . . . an interesting fuel if the specifications are to be believed. Bob Wilson

Hi Bob,
I'll keep my trolling to a minimum. The fuels are great. A lot of testing has been done via shops/retailers and the highest octane of Shell's unleaded race fuels (URT Advanced) has been shown to outperform C16, a well respected 116 octane LEADED fuel.
In other words, you can make all of the power now without lead.... without killing cats or O2 sensors. We just had a car at the track with it last week.

Good to see huge advances in fuel technology, as it's generally been the same for a long time...

I last checked into this when Nascar first went unleaded. I was trying to find out how they were getting the octane without adding lead since this seems to be such a mystery with aviation fuels. Anybody know? Real expensive additives?
