The University is having money issues and they changed the dorm room reservation process.

I had my request for reservation in during the first hour that reservation requests were being taken. I and everyone I know got "waitlisted" and are suppose to be contacted in the future. I cannot find anyone that has been confirmed for a room.

Does anyone know WHEN the University will reach out with confirmation and request for payment?

I am starting to look at other options and most of them have me by-passing AirVenture 2024. I would spend the time and money flying someplace else. AirVenture 2023 may have been the last one for me.

I'm a "motel" attendee, but what did the University say when you called them?

I have one AC room. I was looking for a suite.

The reservation system is terrible. I have complained many times. Service is going to hell.

Anyway, to answer your question, the waitlist is worked on in June when the payments are due. This is when some people cancel, when the money is due.

You are the first person to report that they actually got a reservation.

A friend jumped on the first day and got a confirmed non-AC room. I tried a day or two later and got wait-listed for an AC room. Like you, if the dorm doesn't come through, 2023 may have been my last Oshkosh.

I assume you are talking about UW-Oshkosh. The lodging page does show 3 other schools offering dorm rooms.

The University is having money issues and they changed the dorm room reservation process. ...Would you expand on this, please. Are they short of employees to process requests, or manage the large number of attendees during the convention...?

I have used the U of W's dorms on all of the five occasions that I attended (2013, '15, '19, '22 & '23)and found the process to be efficient and hassle-free. I hope that it hasn't been ruined by cost-cutting.

I had made my request during the first day. Had an awful time getting on the site. I called and left message asking my standing on the wait list. Below is the email reply I received. Just FYI....

"You are currently #176 on the A/C waitlist. I would say that there is a low probability of a room opening up. Alternative accommodations that I am aware of are campsites, hotels/motels, other colleges, & Airbnb rentals in cities surrounding the AirVenture site."

I have been staying at the university dorms since 1991 (excluding 2020 of course). Making a reservation for AC rooms or the suites has gotten worse each year. In the last few years I have been making my reservation on the first day, first hour, first minute, first second that they take reservations. Now that does not work either. I need 2 AC rooms or one suite. I have one AC room. This may be my first year missing Airventure since 1988.

The university says that the problem is a deficit of 18 million for the Oshkosh University and similar deficits for most of the other Wisconsin universities. So providing less rooms with help that!??

Depends on the overhead cost of keeping the rooms available for AirVenture. If the university's term ends on the first week of June, it's probably cheaper to mothball the entire buildings for three months than to keep them open enough to accommodate a one-week crush at the end of July.

Thanks for your reply. What a shame that it has come to this. Apart from camping on the airport grounds, which is difficult when travelling from Australia, the university accommodation was the most affordable and convenient. It was a great place to stay; I was with my 'tribe', the rooms were comfortable, food was good, I didn't need a hire car and a shuttle bus would transport me to/from the airport for five bucks a day.

Email arrived today from "EAA Housing" asking if I still wanted the room. I responded yes and the return email said: "You will shortly be receiving an email confirmation which includes a payment link for you to make the deposit payment online via credit card. This reservation is not confirmed until the deposit has been paid."

Last year, for parking on campus had permits available to purchase when you checked in to get your room keys. IF you are talking about AirVenture Parking tickets, they are available online (https://www.eaa.org/airventure/eaa-airventure-tickets?amp;utm_medium=internal/eaa.org&utm_campaign=av_tickets_2024&utm_term=snow birds-sldier&utm_content=video#parking).

I have always wondered why the local OSH Chapter did not offer to set up camps in Scholler as a fund raiser, or even one of the sub groups like Ultralights, or Vintage. Act as a consierge service. You just need a place to stay. You could find the Kiwi's and / or Aussies in their Scholler enclave. (They have human sacrifices on Monday and Thursday nights.....so I have heard.). :)

They became available online shortly after I posted the question.
