Was "The Gathering" advertised this year? I don't recall seeing any solicitation for it.

Not specifically, no. The webpage was updated for it, however: https://www.eaathegathering.org/. And if I do recall, a link to the mobile bidding site was in one of the eHotline emails either the week prior or early the week of AirVenture.

I don't know if it was advertised, but it certainly happened, though it was pared down to only 500 participants, so they probably didn't advertise heavily because of that.
