Is it just me or is impossible to get any sleep if youÂ’re camping next to your airplane due to the never ending karaoke and debauchery occurring just off site at the beer tent or any of the random houses just outside the fences? ItÂ’s currently 2330L and the concert is still pounding away back there.

EDIT: I don’t want to be the cause of more restrictions placed on someone’s enjoyment during AV week. This thread has been a learning experience for me, I will be bringing ear plugs every year now, problem solved.

We had the same awful experience in homebuilt camping in 2019. Rather than hope for a miracle, my wife and I got some decent earplugs and made the best of it.

When I tell folks that every year I stay at a motel that is 50 miles away from Oshkosh cuz it's affordable, they often tell me it would be easier if I camped. I always reply "No thanks", the last campground I stayed in was called Vietnam and that satisfied any desires to sleep outdoors for me.

More on topic, those inexpensive soft foam ear plugs are wonderful things. Great noise reduction and actually quite comfortable.

People talking loud, ports potty doors slamming all night, traffic on the perimeter road…

Bring earplugs and sleep in ‘em. That’s what I’ve been doing for decades.

I thought for a minute you were talking about the Sturgis experience. Then I see I'm perusing the EAA forum.

Similar crowd, but with less facial hair and fewer women.

I figured Sunday night I could go to bed early.....nope, not happening. Layed on my cot wide awake becasue of what was going on at the Theater in the Woods (and why do thay call it a "theater" anyway?) and the Fly-In Theater that went on and on until 11:30. Really?? I guess I'm just getting old and cranky.

Maybe EAA should think about making a, "Senior" campground area !

I had trouble getting to sleep my first night in HBC. Lots of foot traffic, noise from various sources, noise on the road nearby, etc. I figured all of it predated my attendance by a long time, so maybe I should adapt rather than get upset about it. A pair of foam earplugs worked just fine.

I wasn't told there would be debauchery. If there's an inspection team forming let me know.

I believe debauchers are on runway 18 whenever possible . . .

Soft green ones are the best. (I'm talking about earplugs, what did you think I meant?) -Frank

I’m in homebuilt camping right now (Tuesday night) and for the life of me I can not understand why this one simple week can not be as totally perfect as the rest of my life.

You're in HBC at Oshkosh. How could it possibly be any more perfect? OK, I guess you probably don't have the Swedish bikini team bringing breakfast to your tent every morning, but you probably don't have that the rest of the time anyway.

I'm making pancakes as fast as I can, be patient. The girls are recovering from a night at the beer tent.

I too had trouble sleeping but that's part of Oshkosh. As long as people are having fun I'll deal with it.

Top Gun was particularly loud, but didn't hear any other movies. Ear plugs really do help.

I cannot believe I am reading this! I guess we ALL should have stayed home and watched OSH on our computers. I'm surprised that their is not a thread for Noise Abatement, or Low Flying Airplanes, or even B-17s flying over head making unusual noises. Come on FOLKS Grow UP and have a Good Time! Have FUN for crying out loud! If you cant handle the noise Don't Come and stay home and play with your money!!!

It would be nice if the helicopters selling rides would revise their routes away from the Forum area, so presenters can be heard.

Well the campground has a courtesy quiet time beginning at 10:30 pm, but the fly in theatre, in the campground runs well past that every night. I don't think it's too much to ask that they follow their own guidelines.

I Agree with this. People are there to have a good time so just let them. One week of poor sleep want kill you. If you can’t cope with it perhaps camping isn’t for you. Next we’ll have people complaining that the airport shouldn’t open until 9 so they can sleep in.

Wow what is the vintage of that whine! I wonder do you follow all guidelines perfectly? Its just a week! Have Fun! I would NOT want to be your F/O...

Camping: where you spend a small fortune to live like a homeless person.

Well, to be fair, some homeless people spent small fortunes to live that way, too.

I don't understand. I stagger out of the tent at 6am looking for a greybox and coffee, and return sometime before midnight. My problem is falling asleep fully clothed. You guys must not be doing Airventure right. I suggest volunteering with Vintage Flightline and coming a week before the show to help set up. :D
