I meant there is no airworthiness certificate for LSA. There is for SLSA, but that only applies to new manufacture. And there is ELSA for kits and also SLSA can be converted to ELSA for owner maintenance and non- commercial use, I think. The third type of ELSA was fat ultralight and that expired, so no longer an option.
    All very confusing.

I've posted this before, might not be a bad time to post it again.

Thanks Ronwan, I understand things much better when I can SEE them instead of just reading it. Pictures and videos for simple minds, I guess that's why I like YouTube so much. LOL I'm going to try to print this out.

Excellent chart, Ron. Shouldn't Legal Ultralight maintenance be "Anyone"?

Yes, you're right. I'll have to see if I can dig up the original art.

[Edit: Artwork updated, with a few other slight changes as well. Thanks, Sam.]

The "third type" of ELSA is either a former "fat ultralight" that was converted to ELSA during the eligible period, or a kit based on an SLSA that is assembled strictly in accordance with the kit maufacturer's instructions. The Van's RV-12 is the prime example of an ELSA kit, but there are others as well. The ELSA certificate is still available for these SLSA-based kits.
    Cheers!
