A better article is available from going to the news source rather than picking it up off the wire services. Apparently, caught on LiveATC (though the link doesn't take you to the archive, I'm looking for it now).

Live ATC here, starts about 7 Minutes in: http://archive-server.liveatc.net/kb...2016-0930Z.mp3

Alas, most of the calls from the ground (OPS2, Saint Lukes 1) are hard to make out.

Part of the Idahoan story was interesting. "... the tower, which handles takeoffs and landings for planes at the Boise Airport and at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport ..."

254 nm between the two airports. How the heck does Boise tower do ATC at both?

Okay, say he was asleep and they test him for OSA and it's a positive. The train crash in Hoboken has been attributed to OSA and regulators are pushing heavily for testing.

This is not shaping up well for aviation which got a pass on the first push for OSA testing.

Remote. It's not the tower, it's the TRACON which has been renamed "Big Sky Approach" because of the large geographical area involved. I'll give the press a pass on not knowing the difference between Tower and TRACON; They think all air to ground communication involves a "tower"
