Blast Media for Internal & External Part Cleaning

I have read recently that Glass Blast Media (I presume both Bead & Crushed) should not be used for cleaning
internal or external aircraft engine parts as it is almost impossible to remove it all even with repeated cleaning
as some will be embedded in the metal itself........Question is what blast media is considered safe for this use ?

Walnut shell is the usual engine cleaning media. Can get it anywhere that carries blast media in different grades. If you have access to a soda abrader that works mo better.
