Thread: LSA or Ultralight with best useful load?

  1. #11
    Steve (172 Pilot),
I too, have searched for maximum useful loads (on 2 seaters).
According to the KitPlanes 2012 Kit Aircraft Directory, here are a few that I noted:
    Blue Yonder Aviation's EZ Flyer is 495# MT & 1320# Gross = 825# Useful.
    Custom Flight's Lite Star is 650# MT & 1320# Gross = 670# Useful.
Fisher Flying Products' Celebrity is 600# MT & 1230# Gross = 630# Useful.
    Just Aircraft's Escapade is 615# MT & 1320# Gross = 705# Useful.
I know the Highlander shows the same MT weight, but with the changes to the wing, tail and wheels, it just can't be.
    M-Squared's Breese 2 SS is 540# MT & 1320# Gross = 780# Useful.
    Ran's Design's S-6ES is 675# MT & 1320# Gross = 645# Useful.
    X-Air USA's X-Air H is 578# MT & 1234# Gross = 657# Useful.
From all this, I would say that the Blue Yonder Aviation would be your LSA with the best useful load.

Hard to beat a trike for useful load. Most will carry more than double their own weight. They don't fly fast, but can put down almost anywhere.

I put up a website, bigpilots.com, with my personal ratings of how comfortable various planes are, and I have useful load listings for most of them. I did it about two years ago, and haven't updated it since, but the info is still there.

Like I said, it's all about my personal opinions, so take it for what it's worth.

    Kurt,
BigPilots.com is a great idea and useful, well done site.
I hope that time allows you to update it.
