Innovation Prize?
So....what happened Tuesday night?
-
The five finalists presented their ideas, and a panel of judges ranked them. A couple of them proposed low-cost angle of attack indicators that would also supply a lot of other EFIS data. Another had a AOA display like a ring of LEDs that would change color to indicate nearness to stall. Another proposed sim training in the aircraft using VR goggles. The winner had a novel display of the direction and speed of the relative wind. He called the device "Airball." It displayed a blue disk on a black screen. The disc would appear high on the screen at low AOA and vice versa, and would move left or right with a slip or skid, and would grow big at high airspeed and shrink at low airspeed.

Hi folks. I am the proprietor of the "Airball" idea. This is the paper I submitted to the EAA competition, if you want to read more about it. The paper links to demo videos and the Android app.
