Frankly, the Flight1 edition models the real thing fairly well. But alas it is plagued with technical problems. Firstly, it works with only FSX, it will not work with P3D. Additionally, FSX crashes 1 of every 2 times while flying in the Flight1 Skycatcher. I finally found settings that minimized the system crashes, now I use FSX for only the C162. If I ever want to fly anything else I now use P3D; switching between the C162 and any other plane, or moving it to a different airport is a sure way of crashing the system. Incidentally, I have a top of the line 'gamer' system, so the problems do not lie with my PC system. Finally, Flight1 uses some 'schemish security system, in which they tap into your system every time you use the Skycatcher, I suspect it's their way to verifying that you're a legitimate user. But frankly, it's kinda creepy and I dont care much for it, but you have to allow it or you wont be able to use it. I had to make an exception for it with my antivirus, which was going nuts warning me about it. I've reached out to other add-on providers, like A2A and Carenado, nearly pleading with them to design the Skycatcher. Unfortunately, I've only received template responses. Bottom line, Flight1 is a fairly accurate model, but is plagued with technical problems.
    Hi Jndz,

Years ago when I was actively simming, I remember having a problem with mainly just one of the aircraft I had bought and downloaded. Unlike the other airplane models I had, this particular one set off my Antivirus right off the bat and almost wouldn't let me download it. Even after downloading and installing it continued to give me crashing and freezing problems while my other aircraft were trouble free. I did a virus scan on it but that came out negative. Then I decided to turn of the antivirus altogether, wallah! For some reason my antivirus did not like that download and never stopped screwing with it while I tried to use it in the game.

Just curious, did you try turning off your antivirus?

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't tried this yet, perhaps I'll try that soon. I've obtained a setting that has been working reliably for the past few months, after much trying. I use FSX for only the C162 now, and use P3D for everything else (P3D has never crashed on me). I should like to add that, as someone who flies the C162 in real world flying, the Flight1 version is in fact fairly accurate. Given the paucity of C162 options in the sim market, I would encourage OP to go with the Flight1 version. Perhaps changes will be coming. Thanks again for the antivirus suggestion.

Jndz, what setting(s) are you referring to that allow you to use the Flight1 C162 in FSX more reliably? Thanks

Hi Mike, I couldn't tell you exactly which change did the trick, as I basically threw the kitchen sink at the setting out of frustration. Generally, I decreased settings to what would be acceptable while not exhausting the system and allowing me to use Flight1 C162. Here's how I have it set now:
    GRAPHICS:
    Target frame rate, 30
    Full screen resolution, 1920x1080x32
    Global texture resolution, medium
(IMPORTANT) Preview Direct X 10, OFF (once I unchecked this all sorts of issues seemed to disappear)
    Lens flare, off
    Light bloom, off
    Advanced animations, off
    Information text, single line
    Filtering, bilinear
    Anti-aliasing, off

    AIRCRAFT:
    3D virtual cockpit, on
    Show cockpit tooltips, on
High resolution 3D virt cockpit, on
    Aircraft casts shadow, on
Aircraft casts shadows on itself, off
Aircraft lanmding lights illuminate ground, on

    SCENERY:
    Radius, medium
    Mesh complex, 70
    Mesh resolution, 76
    Texture resolution, 2
    Water effects, 1x
    Land detail textures, on
    Scenery complexity, dense
    Autogen density, normal
    Ground scenery shadows, off
    Special effects detail, medium

    WEATHER:
    Cloud distance 70 mi
    thermal visualization, none
    download winds aloft... off
    disable turbulence... off
    rate that weather changes, medium
    detailed clouds, on
    cloud coverage, low

    TRAFFIC
    Airline traffic, 15
    Gen aviation traffic, 15
    Airport veh density, low
    Show aircraft label, on
    User aircraft, off
    Manufacturer, on
    Model, on
    Tail number, on
    Distance, on
    Altitude, on
    cycle rate, 1s
    Road veh 15
    Ship ferries 15
    Leisure boats 35

I hope this helps. The C162 is a really nice little airplane, a great trainer, coming from someone who has trained in the 162 and 172, before it. In the real world it gets an undeserved bad reputation, I have my opinions on why that is but I wont go into it here. The Flight1 sim version models the real thing very nicely with only a few minor exceptions. If you are thinking of flying the real c162 then this is probably the best model out there (but it's also the only one I have tried, so that's all i can say).

    Thanks Jndz.

I'm hoping to get in the EAA Academy and they're using 162's. I won't be using a flight sim to learn how to fly but I thought if I could find an accurate model of the C162 I could at least take a look at the panel, go over procedures, ect. I don't know if the 162's come from the factory with a 'standard' panel but is the models panel layout the same as the one you flew in?

Mike, if you get your hands on a computer with FSX and can purchase the Flight1 C162 then I would recommend it. Don't let my frustration with the software prevent you from getting it, because despite my frustration with the technical end of things, I still think that it models the real thing very nicely. I think this is especially true for the dashboard. This is probably the best thing about the software. There are some things that the G300 on the simulator does not do, which you can do with the real thing. Nevertheless, it does help familiarize you with procedures. I remember doing a 30 min flight with my CFI and we were programming the GPS. He was having some difficulties figuring out something, I help as I knew exactly what to do, having learned it in the sim software.
