Question Overnight stop before arriving at KOSH?

    Hello,

My first time flying to AirVenture this year. Since most people agree that early arrival is best arrival, I plan on having an overnight stop somewhere close to Oshkosh. What are your recommendations on such stops (airports and hotels)? Ideally, I would like it to be no longer than an hour flight to KOSH in an RV-10. I am flying in from the west.

    Thanks!

Marshfield, WI has a nice airport (KMFI) and EAA people (Duffy's - http://duffysaircraft.com/). There are also some decent hotels in town.

Dubuque, IA KDBQ is good. Good service at the FBO, shuttles to hotels. Controllers are fine. You can watch the AT6 team practice.

Should be plenty of options in Western WI. I like that plan, snug it up less than an hour out, easy flight in the next morning.

Also highly recommend KDLL (Baraboo Dells Airport). Right across the street from the Casino. Tons of stuff to do in the Dells area and great FBO and staff.

Appleton is a hop skip and a jump. Good facilities and the FBO is all set for heavy traffic. Lots of hotels and food options. Transportation is available. Last year I arrived late and slept on the grass till the FBO opened. Next day two local airports had other activities. I need to check the charts but went 20 miles north to a grass strip fly in breakfast, then stopped at N-S paved strip (Brenin I think) half way between APE and OSH for a very friendly welcome. They offered an airport car for the best breakfast around at Porkies on prior stops there. All rooms were taken in the MSP area.

Baraboo/ WI Dells (DLL) Sheboygan (SBM)
Eau Claire (EAU) Stevens Point (STE)
    Green Bay (GRB) Waupaca (PCZ)
    Juneau (UNU) Wausau (AUW)
    Marshfield (MFI) Appleton (ATW)
    Mosinee (CWA) Antigo (AIG)
    Shawano (EZS)

All depends when entering from the west, how far north or south of Oshkosh. A lot of friendly little airports 1-2 hours from (OSH).
