    Glad it worked out for you. You could always practice engine disassembly / reassembly on your rusted out hulk

    Editing your original post like that is kinda uncool, leaves people wondering what happened, or even what it was all about in the first place. Posting a reply with the update would have been better.

    Sorry to have not handled this inquiry better.

    My original post asked basically, What would you do?"

    Then, we found a mechanic who had worked on the engine back in the day, and he agreed to inspect it to see what shape it was in.

    To make amends for my misbehavior, I will post again with the results of his inspection, and the action plan going forward.
