    Druine d-31 turbulent

    The Western North Carolina Air Museum is selling this 1950's Design Druine Turbulent plans built aircraft project.
    The Druine is a single seat, low wing aircraft of traditional all wood with fabric covering construction.
    Project come with Two engines. One on the plane and another disassembled with many of it's part still bags from engine machine shop.
    Plane is on gear and controls have been rigged. Wooden propeller and gas tank included. Two sets of blueprints one paper and one digital (on zip drive) are included. Asking $5000.00 or best offer. All proceeds from the sale go to support the museum and it's programs.

    Which size VW is on the nose and in a basket? Who made the prop and what size? What covering process? Has she been weighed yet to determine her empty weight?

    Crusty,

    Sorry so long to reply. Cover process was Stits. Engines both are 1600VW. I think the prop was made by Tennessee Propeller but not sure. Will check and get size also this weekend when get over to museum again. Plane never had weight and balance done and has no logs. Project was never finished or had airworthy cert. Hopes this answers questions for now. Thanks for the interest.

    By "no logs," do you mean there's no builders' log? Are there any construction photos? Are the builders still available to sign affidavits stating that the portions of the airplane they built were done for educational and/or recreational purposes? You're welcome.

    No builders logs, no construction photos. Plane has passed through a number of hands so no info on builders. Would have to create all this yourself. That is why being sold as incomplete project. Prop that comes with plane is actually made by FELIX PROPELLER INC. it is a P5429CV232

    Mel Asberry, the DAR who writes for Kitplanes, says, "A builder’s log is a requirement. On the other hand, there are no specific requirements laid out for the log. It simply must show a chronological sequence of the build. It needs to show when the project was started, when it was finished, and points along the way. It also should contain pictures of the project and builder. The primary purpose of the log is to prove to the inspector that you did indeed build the aircraft."

    Granted, you only need to prove you built 51% for the sole purpose of obtaining the Repairman's Certificate for that airplane, but would creating an ex-post-facto builders log be considered fraudulent? Would a DAR accept such a builders log if represented truthfully? Based on the answers, your Turbie has a future as either a very low cost airplane, or a very expensive wind tee.

    No reason why the airplane can not be completed and flown as experimental - something other than amateur built.

    Just need someone that finds value in doing that or finds value in the collection of parts for other reasons.

    True, provided the owner knows in advance exactly when and where to he/she will be flying her for the annual declaration to the FAA...just as many competition glider pilots do for their European birds.
