Personally a lot of it gets to the actual cost of ownership and flying. When you consider the price of av fuel, hangar, insurance, annuals, maintenance and it starts to eat into your disposable (??) income other less expensive hobbies start to look better. There a lot of 'fixed' costs when aircraft ownership. I know a number of folks that have bailed out of private flying and ownership because of cost. Plus, many find out the 'utility' really isn't there without an instrument rated aircraft and license. Me? I'm satisfied putting along with an old Champ and boring holes in the sky when the weather is blue skies and light winds.
