World Cruiser Replica Makes First Flight

Seattle II, the replica Douglas World Cruiser built by a bunch of Seattle volunteers lead by Bob Dempster, made its first flight today. Just a hop down the runway due to IFR conditions, but they did get air under the tires for about 30 seconds. Video was taken, and should be online soon.

Seattle II is powered by a Liberty engine, just like its 1924 predecessors. It's Bob's intention to trace the original flight by the Army aviators.

Brilliant news, Ron - thanks for bringing this to our attention!
I checked their website only last Thursday or so, and didn't see any notification. But it's now been brought up to date.
My understanding is that the DWC replica won't be appearing at Oshkosh soon, but I'm looking forward to seeing it display at a couple of stops in Europe first.
