Homebuilt Choices

I'm a student Pilot,close to my check ride and I've been very interested in building an EA. When I joined EAA a few years ago I thought it would be the place to find the EA that I want to build. However despite the mountain of info available, EAA's Plans/Kits database is a terribly unsearchable mess. You have to go thru and click on every name just to find out what the heck it is or if its even available any more. Pretty useless. Any way, I'm a big guy. Over 6ft and 280lbs. Most the EA kits & plans I've found on-line are small aircraft with limited useful loads. The Bearhawk and M. Moose are the few exceptions I can find. Is there any EA that would compare to a C205 or 206?

There are very few homebuilts with the power, speed and range of a big Cessna and such a project would likely be more expensive than just buying a used, factory-built aircraft. It would be great to know more about your particular requirements, but from what you said I am guessing at least three seats (no offense, but the FAA would count just you as two), high wing and tricycle gear.
