FAA regulations defining LSA with reference to model changes

Where can I find the FAA regulation that states an aircraft that originally qualified for light sport operation and was upgraded to a model that exceeded the gross weight of 1320 lbs, may not be returned to a light sport configuration?

    Thanks.

Don, the general definition for light sport aircraft in FAR 1.1 will answer that question.

Not sure what the rational is for not allowing a person to bring the GW back to 1320# especially when you're only over by a few. I have a friend who has a L16 that was upgraded to 1335# by the CAP years ago. He asked a FAA guy about it and was told "It's a Champ... go fly it"! My "Super Chief" project has a GW of 1350# and 'utility GW' of 1190# but I'll cross that bridge when I get it finished. Hopefully they might get the third class medical dropped by that time.

If God had intended man to fly He would have given us more money!
