    The Warbirds of Normandy

Just got back from a battlefield tour of Normandy.

    Utah Beach museum B-26:

Not too many planes on display, but the Utah Museum has a B-26, and the Musee Airborne (fantastic museum) in Ste. Mere Eglise has a C-47 and a Waco glider...both in buildings with parachute-shaped roofs.

The Packard Merlin is from one of the many smaller museums that popped up to show items recovered from the battlefields. Odd sort of damage, here...some prop blades bent forward, others aft.

A chateau we visited had a shed with some sort of aircraft wreckage in it...well mangled, about the size of a desk. Thought it might have been a piece of the pod of a P-38, just from the pattern of the rivet holes for a fairing.
